So the Comic Con wrapped up last Sunday, and it was quite awesome! It was at the Convention Centre this year, but to me it almost felt like it was too big. At the Victoria Inn last year, it had kind of a more laid back feeling, the anime and gaming rooms were actual rooms and not open areas surrounded by yellow fencing. Also, I think the panels last year were more interesting. There were ones hosted by actors, comic companies, dress makers, etc. whereas this year it was mainly "Lou Ferrigno at 3 on the mainstage". But they did have martial arts demos this year, those were cool from the quick glimpse we got.
There were also a lot of cool costumes (most of these are from facebook). A couple of Spideys, Emma Frost, a Night Elf, Doctor Girlfriend(no Dr. Mrs. The Monarch there though), the ever present Bobba Fett, a couple of Harley Quinns, some guy whose custom costume was made from hot tub jets, Captain Canuck and the Riddler, a Predator, and tons of cute little kids.
And that's not even including the costume contest. Yours truly made an appearance and won Novice 1st. Princess Aurora got 2nd Journeyman, the "Slaughter You World guy for 1st Journeyman, and freakin Ghost Rider got Best in Show. The judges were a couple of comic artists and John De Lancie. Cory wowed him with his pretty gams and sparkley smile, so that's why we won.
We met up later with Rorshach and fought some crime. It was good stuff.
I made Cory's costume with tons of drinking straws sewn in under the fabric. It gave it a really flexible yet sturdy feeling. His mask is from Fwegga leather design, I made the shoulder pad out of sculpey and tons of epoxy and slapped some sale belts onto the front. Hockey pads for his knees and shins, volleyball pads for his elbows. I stole yellow fabric from my divorce dress, bought a perfect belt and pair of boots, and had my hair stylist cut and dye my hair. We did not dress up the next day, we stuck with our more comfortable secret identities.
We wasted much money on collectible junk that we opened as soon as we got home. Red Son President Superman for Cory, anime Wonder Woman figure for me. There were so many vendors that it was hard to keep your purse strings tight. And the artists had tons of great stufffor sale. I'll hopefully be having a table next year.
Lou Ferrigno and special guest star his HUGE ARMS were there. Lois and Green Arrow popped by to save the day. De Lancie's head also made its way around. The music at the Ghost Busters's car was on a loop, and drove us insane. Levar Burton showed up on Sunday and had a huge line up in front of his booth.
All in all, it was quite awesome. Come next year!!!!
